Adding multiplayer "game types"

Post by BlueMaxima »

Multiplayer games with different objectives instead of "take out everyone else" can add a good layer of depth to the game.

Some example modes:

-Skirmish: We all know and love it.
-Stockade: Collect a certain amount of power to win. Simple, doesn't require any map editing.
-Defender: Big unit, lots of HP, gotta keep it moving to collect points and win.
-Takeover: Build a certain building on a certain area, earn points while the building's there.
-King of the Hill: Points are earned for being on top of a hill, winner is the player with the most points.
-Point Grab: All players have infinite power. Points earned for killing enemies. Player at the end with the most points wins.

That would be a good addon to Challenge mode that has been added recently.

There is some work on that in the lua branch. I have no idea when that is going to be finished, however. We need more people to help out :(

I'd help, but I don't know how to write code.

So would I.
Most of people here would like to help, if they knew how to code.

You could always start learning: http://www.learncpp.com/ http://lua-users.org/wiki/LearningLua.

Even if you can't help right now, it will still be a valuable skill to have.

You can hardly learn by reading bunch of tutorials.

C++ is (mostly) useless for Warzone, C is enough to get you started.

When did this become a discussion about learning Lua?

No, but I would like to have HDMI 1.4 and SATA 3 connector ,but Ethernet and few USB 3 connectors more wouldn't hurt. ;)

I think I'll start learning C. Thanks for telling me. Of course, no telling how long learning C will take, but I will still learn it.

game modes, game type's : we'r all dreaming about this!
i'd also love to see more maps and mods who fits each other, if you can edit more options like "ai cheat Y/N"
and about points, then warzone first needs alot of new screens to show the points and all
what i like is:
-Art of defense(let ai spawn units in waves to stronger)
-tower defense(i think this is nearly impossible )
-comp stomp (possible, let the ai spawn units and trucks for example inclusive added oil and build speed )
... where did all the good ol classic ai's gone to? Turtle AI , Super AI

"Comp stomp" isn't a game type on any game - it's just a regular game where you play against a lot of AIs... Giving the AI more oil etc is already done by increasing the AI difficulty slider.

IIRC tower defense is already implemented in the lua branch. We just need to get that done one day... Once I add scripting support to challenges, it should be simple to add more fun challenges, too. As a result of my AI interface work, I want to split the AI into a non-cheating version, and a version that cheats like there was no tomorrow, so much that several humans need to cooperate against one AI or you need to be really good (similar to how Supreme Commander does it).
