Again, I have to disagree with this.
It is the difference between targetted marketing, and mass marketing. Mass-marketing, the kind you are proposing, would be unilateral in therms of its "grabbing". While I don't think these forums will ever get as bad as, say, the WoW General forums... lets just say that I find the (normally) civil discussions found here to be a relief from the norm of internet forum going.
If you want to advertise, use targetting marketing. Rather than just telling everyone to "come here", at least get some minor cursory knowledge of the person first. For example, if you play an 4-player free for all map in starcraft, and (as a very light example, of course), after it ends, and you win, the other 3 players respond with:
P1) f$%@ you marine-producing f!@#$%
P2) Goddamn lag, you wouldn't have won if we were on an even field
P3) Good game. Till next time.
Just telling P3 about this cool RTS game called Warzone is much better than letting all 3 of them know about it.
Obviously, nothing is bulletproof, and smacktards will show up on any forum given enough time; but (and I may be the only one on the planet who believes this, I guess) when looking for people to contribute to something (which, for right now, these boards are more about game design and less about just shootin' the breeze like a chatroom), quality is a much more important trait than quantity.
