Design Buildings

Post by WZ2100 »

Every player should be able to customize his/her own structure(s) in a 3 step process like how vehicles are designed.

1. First, you pick what type of unit. You can choose trap, wall, tower, bunker, building, hardpoint, fortress, etcetera.

2. Second, you decide which material the structure would be made of. For example, you can pick steel or concrete.

3. Finally, you choose the turret. Optionally, you may decide to create a unit without any turrets.

Unusual units can make Warzone 2100 more interesting. A gamer can create a concrete tower with a command turret, a steel bunker with a repair turret, a concrete trap with a machine gun turret, etc.

Just trying Contingency mod. After first look it seems going in such direction: its redesigned research tree things, named tower, emplacement, hardpoint, bunker, which became available after each new material researched (from steel to plastal, if i named it correctly), and for each such thing — dozens of gun, cannon, etc things, each researched instantly, without wasting time. Sad thing — resulting buildings list includes all compositions of material, structure type (mostly defence) and optionaly — weapon.

If game allowess, it would be nice to allow designing in same interface section as for units... of course, it will need specific subsection like "material", but there is already case with multiturret body, for which second weapon design section appears when first is set. Later such designs may be available in buildings section for work units. Btw, same may be applied to cyborgs (already discussed in some threads).
Those, who sacrifice culture for bit of freedom don't diserve any.
