Satellites

Post by richard14110 »

A satellite can view the location of all units (plus the entire map) by using the Global Positioning System and is unplayable because it is controlled by artificial intelligence. This electronic device flies and can wield a weapon to strike.

The pathway(s) of satellites is to circle around the map randomly, either counter-clockwise or clockwise, or eventually both.

GPS does not work by "seeing" things :D

If I am understanding this correctly, you are proposing a unit that already exists, in essence, within the Satellite Uplink Center and the Laser Satellite Command Post... the only difference being that you would actually be able to see it :P

Both the Laser Satellite Command Post and the Satellite Uplink Center are buildings and not aircrafts! Just imagine two structures built for what is not existent in Warzone 2100 at this very moment...

Thing is, GPS works pretty much in the same as the Uplink centre and the Laser Satellite Command Post do. Satellites aren't spacecraft that move at will, as they are usually in the geostationary orbit.

Additionally, isn't this idea just effectively Aircraft-mounted Scanners? Until the Uplink exists, I could see "scout planes" equipped with no weapons otherwise but having a scanner on them having a fair amount of use to scout ahead for your units.

Yes! I want VTOL with a scanner(with increased range because of much bigger height)! sort of low-orbit sattelite.
But actuall sattelite will spin whole planet about every 40 minutes, and it will see such small piece of land for couple of minutes. what is useless on battlefield. Plane with a scanner is much better.
