Double, Triple, Quadruple research, Oh my!

Ideas and suggestions for how to improve the Warzone 2100 base game only. Ideas for mods go in Mapping/Modding instead. Read sticky posts first!

A very common problem in multiplayer games is the annoying loss of power in research when someone begins researching something a fraction of a second before you click it. I think only one person should be able to research something at a time. This addition will really clean up the researching, making it easier and less time consuming (searching for another thing to research). It will also help when playing with players new to the game and who don't know what the hearts on the research items mean.

I hope that this will be implemented, any other thoughts ? :D

We'd be a step closer to being able to do that with the stuff Per is currently working on: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=10821

IMHO in dynamic alliances mode, research should not be shared, but would be nice to bring back option in intel screen to transfer a research to an ally.

But having a price modifier for the labs would be great. For mods at least :) .

I think that's part of the complaint this thread started with. The addition of hearts helps, but doesn't completely take care of the issue.

Maybe when a heart is shown on an item, other members of alliance shouldn't be allowed to start researching it unless it's stuck on the green "assigning power" stage? If more than one person researches same item, first to get to yellow "actually researching" stage wins the right to research it and labs of any allies researching it are freed up to research something else.

Good call that, about the green assigning power - I never thought of that and it would definitely need to be taken into account. I think this solution is perfecto

Need to add that some players forget to build modules. Then you need to override allied research if it is done without a module and you can do it faster with your module. When the module is being built, then it is already known that estimating research time is too complicated, so the research needs to be freed at this time, i guess.

You can always upgrade your ally's research facility yourself (possibly gifting them power in the process). :P
