To Thank or Not To Thank or talk about anything else LoL!

Ok Aubergine, I understand trolls very very well. :)

I think we are not used to people being so kind, do you remember my first reaction when you have thanked me? If no look into my thread :)

But I admit, I would be very happy Sir if you vary your posts, paraphrase, or change structure.....
Hello Mero:

Yes I do remember your first reaction to my Thanking you for your maps and I understand the other things you are saying also.

Basically, I am posting Thank You's in old threads as well as new ones because I only just discovered them = I did not realise so many mapmaker's threads were here & that so many maps have been made. No matter if the thread is old or new, I believe that anyone who does something nice for me, deserves to be Thanked. From some of the posts in threads at this forum, it seems that some people are pretty upset that they have never been Thanked. And when I do nice things for free for other people and they fail to Thank me, that is not cool either.

As far as my providing details about what I like or do not like in a specific map, well, that is simply Not something that I would ever do. Why? Because it is Not my place. I have never tried to make a map, a mod, a graphic, do coding or anything else for any type of software program. I know Nothing at all about these things, so who the frak would I be, to think that I should and what right would I have, to post that "I don't like a map because of this, this, and this..." to tell you experts my lame opinions :?:

You are all providing me with new and great maps, etc. to not only keep this awesome game continually fresh and enjoyable, but you all are also doing it for Free. I do Not look a gift horse in the mouth.

The simple fact is that I also do Not have the time to make detailed posts of all the things I like in the maps I play. There are times I will see a new map posted at this site, download it and post a quick Thank You to show the mapmaker how much I appreciate the new map, but I may not play it until I get a chance because of my work. Besides as I already explained, my view is that all maps are awesome. It does not matter to me that some other people may not like a particular map, I can always find many things I like about each map. I can look at the glass as half full, or half empty. I choose to look at the glass as not knowing it is larger than the amount of water inside it. Not that the glass could shrink itself anyway (at least not yet).

Years ago I was first a moderator, then made an admin at a forum site that had over one hundred thousand members and did that for several years. Occasionally someone would Thank me for the help I gave them, but usually most did not.

While we had a lot of great people providing content for free and some of those people actually would spend several hours editing the content to improve its quality for people, for Free, I learned there were some people who would never Thank anyone. Some people even made complaints about the content. Others actually posted very fraking nasty comments. And then I finally learned that not only were we losing the good members who were posting the content because they took offense at the nasty posts assholes were making in the forum, but the good members were also receiving nasty private messages from fraking assholes who were actually Complaining about the quality and type of file format of their content!

Was furious when I found this out. Spent a full year banning the bad members and sticking up for the good members. Tried for a freaking Year to explain to the other mods and admins that it was Not acceptable to allow these nasty people to do these nasty things to the good members. However they all ignored me, good members continued to leave, so I resigned from staff. A couple years later, sneaked back into the site and the very first post I read was from some ass**** being nasty and mean to a nice member who posted some content. The nasty post was there for a couple weeks, the mods and admins did nothing to stick up for the good member being bashed. :( As soon as I saw that post, I made the comment: " Same old xxx xxxx site, staff never sticking up for the good members who bust their butts being nice and posting great content, LoL", and I have not been back since.

Why don't I make posts in the other threads here to Thank those people also? Lack of time, I have not even been in most of the other threads at this site besides the map threads. However I do appreciate All of the other volunteers here who help improve the other parts of Warzone. If I had the time, I'd personally Thank everyone here each time, but I just can't do that obviously. I attempt to Thank the mapmakers because it is the new maps that I download here, I don't use any mods or anything else besides the WZ program itself.

Question: Does this forum software program that staff use for all of us to make posts, have the capability to display a "Thanks" button, so people can click on the button to show their thanks? If so, would staff consider enabling this button? :)

To sum up, I greatly appreciate the things everyone here does for me to continue to enjoy WZ so it works better and better, looks better and better and the new content is also awesome. You all have my utmost Thanks for all the past, present and future work that you all do, and that I and others will continue to benefit from. :)

@sg1efc:

Appreciate your POV all around. And the honesty and courage to post such details of your personal experience.

I've also admin / moded at substantive bbs over the last 2 decades and have had to deal with individuals of a clearly nasty stripe.

Why they do what they do is beyond me and trying to reason with 'em is like asking the color blind to behold the wonders of a canvas by Monet.

But what I'm certain of is their toxic impact and it's deeply corrosive effect all around, on every level of a communities well being.

You have spoken to your experience in having to deal with this, what you did to counter the toxicity. I also believe a "hands-off" approuch doesnot work.

Like yourself, I believe gracious acknowledgment of honest efforts and works of creation is a fundamental moral imperative.

In my experience there is a great divide between folks who thoroughly get TANSTAAFL and those who think free lunches are to be had everywhere and should be taken for granted as much as clean air and water.

A sincere thanks to you for sharing this and the precious time it took to compose with the obvious care invested in it. :3

- Regards, RV. :hmm:

You are quite welcome and thank you very much for your reply Rman Virgil. :) It is great to find people who also think that nasty people do Not have the right to be nasty. There is way too much nastiness on the internet however that is starting to change. Facebook is starting to help stand up to bullies and other nasty people:

Thank you Giani, it is a quicker and easier way for people to, at a bare minimum, show their thanks by clicking a button. However, typing the words Thank You, still only takes seconds to do.

I'm not a map or mod maker, I just enjoy the game and the forum.
I Love it when you thank every map maker. This behavior should be copied all over. :)

Lots of laughs, Mero. :) Time limits me on the amount I can post here and elsewhere.
