One of the reasons we have cheats in the game in the first place is because they help people like me fix bugs. =| I'd fight the removal of cheats every step of the way.

you wont have to - discussion on irc last night ... consensus was not to remove. need to look at getting some form of detection for the cheats being used out there... :hmm:

.

Detecting the cheaters, instead of preventing the cheats, has been considered a most viable solution for years now, especially for time cheats.

That said, here is perhaps a useful reference vis-a-vis how the folks who run America's Army deal with Cheat Detection:

And for convenience:

Yes, I am well aware that EvenBalance / PBs operates under a business model with game dev - publishers... however the clear strategies they implement in their technology and its presentation (for lack of a better word at the moment) offer useful protocols, IMO, to at least review.

After reading this post I was wondering if you thought you were looking at this proposed problem ass-backwards? It seemed that players dislike the possibility that players can Cheat in Multi-player hosted games? So lets ask Zarel if he or one of the other developers could create some code to this effect:

When we are playing the campaign and we use the cheat codes in game, the AI recognizes that transgression and when you finish that level the AI notifies you that you cheated to obtain the level.

So the honest players need a way to to take away the advantage of using cheat codes in game to keep the game honest to their perspective.

Can the current AI recognize when a player's IP activates the cheat codes and then switch all players to the cheat mode by default, there by removing the advantage of cheaters in game?

When everyone cheats then no one can cheat?

Think of it in global terms: When all countries have nuclear capabilities then no one has the ability to use nuclear weapons as an advantage over others - why do you think that countries that currently have nuclear capabilities never attack one another? There's no advantage.

No. Cheaters just disable the usual "Player X is cheating" message that is broadcast whenever a cheat code is activated.

Although, we could have algorithms that could check for impossible plays, like "this player just made 50 heavy body tracked tanks in 10 seconds." That could force an autokick or a cheat notification. Some food for thought. :hmm:
