"Beta 7" vs "Beta VII"
Re: "Beta 7" vs "Beta VII"
Henceforth, you should simply call your beta releases:
uno
dos
tres
cuatro
etc.
To avoid confusion

Re: "Beta 7" vs "Beta VII"
.
Beta Mission Level 1 - could be aka, Beta ML1 (thru Beta ML11, natch).
As Pumpkin were a British Game Developer it is neatly analogous with the acro MI5 (Military Intelligence, Section 5) - the United Kingdom's counter-intelligence and security agency.
Just riffing.

Or we could just rename the campaigns.
First campaign: New Paradigm
Second: The Collective
Third: Nexus
Beta 7 becomes (the) Collective 7

Genius.First campaign: New Paradigm

Third: Nexus
Re: "Beta 7" vs "Beta VII"
Interesting idea, but would make the campaigns way too obvious.3drts wrote:Or we could just rename the campaigns.

But naming them by tilesets could also be good.

Urban 3...
Rockies 8...
Interesting idea. I like it the most of all the suggestions thus far. What does everyone else think?

like the idea
Re: "Beta 7" vs "Beta VII"
I suppose naming them by tileset is better than naming them by the primary enemy.
However, I would use "desert" rather than "Arizona"
Arizona is too specific IMO.
Perhaps Mountains instead of Rockies as well

Complete change from the original with absolutely no military flavor. Hmmm.... interesting.

Re: "Beta 7" vs "Beta VII"
If you use roman numerals, people are still going to use a number when asking for help, and use a number as shorthand in most posts.
The same goes if you spell out the numbers.
If people were aware there could be confusion, and tried to prevent it by not using shorthand, then we wouldn't have a problem in the first place, as one would assume those people could also say "Need help with the Beta 7 *mission*" or "I have a problem with the Beta 2 release/ with 2.x.y beta z"
The only solution is to stop calling them "beta" releases, or stop calling the 2nd campaign "Beta".
As the term "beta" is well established in the game development community/industry, it seems to me Beta campaign must be renamed, and if so, the others should get a new name as well.
So the two suggestions so far are naming based on the primary enemy, and naming based on the setting/terrain.
Or we could name based on the plot (vaguely).
Alpha 1 = Ascension 1 - as this campaign marks the growth, expansion, and advancement of the project, particularly the early levels vs scavengers. Maybe Advancement 1?
Beta 1 = Belligerence 1 - this campaign is marked from the beginning by all out war, nothing resembling diplomacy (note the New Paradigm gave the Project an ultimatum, after the Project entered a restricted area, and depending on how you manage your units, it is the project that fires the first shot, and the NP only attacks after the project wipes out one of their outposts), and culminates in the ultimate belligerent act of the WZ world, a Nuclear strike.
Gamma 1 = .... Resolution 1? Deliverance 1? Apocalypse 1? Phoenix 1?
Can't think of a good name that describes the campaign, and not one that starts with G (to keep some consistency with the old like the two proposed names above).
In it the story is resolved, the campaign also has IMO the largest tech deficit to start with, and project forces have the most catching up to do.
The las sats also push the project to the breaking point, and the project gets revenge for what Nexus did (ie start the collapse)

Many of us don't have a strong military background. Feel free to suggest something yourself, though.Rman Virgil wrote:Complete change from the original with absolutely no military flavor. Hmmm.... interesting.
