Another year with spectacular new developments passed since the liberation of Warzone's source code in 2004.

Thanks to the developers for their constant work and support. Thanks to Eidos for the wise decision to release Warzone 2100 under the GPL and, of course, thanks for releasing the music and videos earlier this year under the GPL as well.

As a little surprise for the community EvilGuru and Elio gave an interview on the new widget system, betawidget.

Special interview #2: New widget system (betawidget) (English original)
Spezialinterview #2: Neues Widget-System (betawidget) (German translation)

I wish everyone a happy Warzone 2100 Liberation Day 2008 and enjoy reading the interview.

Happy Liberation Day everyone!

The new UI looks fantastic. I didn't think you were planning to start working on it so soon. It's just a great news to start a new year in wz resurrection developing...
Hope to see final 2.1 soon, as RCs look very promising!

Indeed a day to be celebrating.
If I had any fireworks I'd be firing some off the balcony now.

....

i'd also like to give a shout out to the folks who kept the game alive for almost 6 years prior to source release by advancing
the game without benefit of source code (their stuff is still being used & recycled) and who tirelessly, year in and year out, did
everything they could to get the source liberated - and the ultimately did, inspite of many naysayers who repeatedly said it was
a waste of time and would never happen so why even bother.
