Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
Again same question, for which late-game weapon would you never spent any power?
EDIT: Note that we are only taking direct/tank weapons into consideration, no arty or vtol weapons.

as they all rock - it takes one that knows how and when to use what. ;D
"to prepare for disaster is to invite it, to not prepare for disaster is a fools choice" -me (kim-lav_coyote25-metcalfe) - it used to be attributed to unknown - but adding the last bit , it now makes sense.

Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
I think Heavy cannon is mid-game weapon?
I think the most useless weapon in post-T3 is flashlight, too little damage and only good vs cyborg?

tasks postponed until the trunk is relatively stable again.
Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
What's the Scourge missile system doing on there? If anything, that's the weapon that sucks the least.
Never utilise the Rail Gun, as I can never seem to actually get the weapon to make contact despite it's impressive power.

Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
I didn't state those were all T3 weapons, late game/mid game is just a rough criteria to separate weapons into more or less even groups. This will give us a more accurate picture.

Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
(Bear in mind that if we do get around to a major game rebalance nothing is *useless* - I have plenty of ideas to diversify and balance the gear )
IMHO Heavy Laser. Too short a range and not enough penetration, plus its heavy and expensive - in comparison to other T3 weapons that's really saying something!
Flash is only for getting to Pulse, at least you can build it on hardpoints... Pulse is good against all except heavy vehicles.
Why is the HCan in there? Seeing as its T1 I imagine that dedicated cannon users would have switched to the TAssCan by that point...
Gauss weapons are good when upgraded but ATM the Rail sucks a bit - yes the Needle has slightly lower BP and damage but it appears a lot earlier, fires a lot faster, is much lighter and cheaper to boot... Rail really needs its range hiked from 1536 to 1792 and penetration upped a little to make it more of a 'mid-range' gauss weapon...
Scourge should be rebalanced for other reasons... IMHO all the rockets/missiles need a redo, the linear bits of their tree is too short so Scourge appears mid-game and sweeps up stuff *too* effectively...

I voted other, since the Plasmite Flamer wasn't listed. Heavy Laser (and it's follow up, the plasma cannon), are basically flamers on steroids, without the afterburn effect... absolutely amazing anti-everything-other-than-heavy-body power, if you can get them in range.
Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
Twin ASSault CANnon
Pardon my shorthand
And I thought the Plasmite was a laugh - it is a lot cheaper and lighter than the Heavy Laser, has better RoF IIRC and has a bunker version which rocks for close defense at chokepoints (well, relatively anyway...)

Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
i would say that the HC while not the cheapest weapon it has more of a rear guard defense or support weapon to the GC,RG,PL,HL,Scourge.
Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
i agree with watermelon, flashlight is pretty useless, and it'd have been cool if you got it in the beta campaign, and had a few more laser weapons in gamma.
most of the other weapons are better in certain conditions, but the heavy cannon is the most reliable, especially given the amount of hitpoints it provides, to say, the gauss cannon. until such a time as it is possible to have ultra-realistic warfare in a mod, the heavy cannon always has a place on top of a tracked heavy body, to soak up fire (and pass back a bit of its own) while you use specialized units to move in and slice through the enemy using hit-and-run (as is often the case with long range weapons), or sometimes suicide attacks (which is what you might do with inferno units to use them maximally, since they always seem to die on the run, anyways).

Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
kage you have a point there i cant argue with that the HC is a great main weapon especially in the beta cam. but half way through the gamma cam. and the pulse laser, scuorge starts to become a deadly force. That can hurt the GC because you get it like right at the end of the game when you had to fight througout the game without it and already can without it, but its still fun to use though.
Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
i think tahat havie canon is the best weapon off the game because when it upgrade to the end, they can shot as a napalmganner
Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
I vote for ALL to let the game more closer to the reality that
let the users make their own choice, maybe right/wrong choice for the right/wrong time (in the manner of game rebalance)

Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
i agree with you entirely, but then, my situation was not typical: by that time i had about 3 hero ranked hc tanks, and i was going to do everything possible to give them the most hitpoints money could by. aside from that, I used commanders to good degree, with 2 of them at or near specialist level, and almost all my other combat units (with the exception of vtols) were mid way up the experience ladder. all i really had to do was let my cannons soak up the damage, make good use of manuevering and mobile repair so that they could stay in good condition in the field, or get back to base when necessary, and beyond that, i was utilizing about 20 vtols and twice that number in mobilized ground shakers, with an extra contingent arch angel batteries once available. in other words, nothing about the game seemed decisive, and it all seemed like pretty slow work, but i was able to get through most missions with a minimum of casualties, and often enough, have about 30 mins remaining on the clock when the last remnants of the enemy were getting beaten down. a lot of it was just exploiting some quirks of the ai (eg, the ai wouldn't reacquire targets until it either had to run away, or the target had been destroyed or was out of range), so if the ai was better, i'd have actually had to put down the chips and salsa and put on my tactician's hat.Teken187 wrote: kage you have a point there i cant argue with that the HC is a great main weapon especially in the beta cam. but half way through the gamma cam. and the pulse laser, scuorge starts to become a deadly force. in the very end, the hc doesn't do great damage, but it is decent enough that you can whittle down the enemy and use vtols and artillery to do the major damage and finish them off (or vice versa). even though it's pretty low in the "kills per minute" area, in terms of "kills per energy spent" or "duration of battlefield survival", it's more or less second to none when it comes to the "in the fray" direct fire units.

Re: Vote for the most useless Late-Game weapon
Well. The last time I played WZ was eons ago. So I kinda forgot what is what. I do remember the Scourge kicking ass. And I 'member using the heavy cannon lots, so it can't be bad.
.....Unless i just din have money to cash in on the new shiny stuff. BUT. If my memory serves me right. The flashlight has my vote. Unless you're facing cyborg hordes.
....Ah damn. I accidentally clicked the pulse laser.
