Most powerful (massed?) unit in WZ?
From what I have seen it is massed Groundshakers, they seem to annihilate anything in their path - this is normally pretty late in the game. MIddle game seems to be tankkiller rockets, although twin assault cannons can work better if dealing with heavy defenses -no matter what the defense if there is no groundshaker arty they will smash thru... even then massed plasmites can give some trouble...
Both GS and TAC really need to have fully upgraded ROF and Damage as well.

Obviously tank killer cyborgs will annihilate tank killer rockets.

Twin assault cannon mantis tracks, surprisingly fast and not particularly weak against anything. Tank killer is the best defence, of course, but its long reload times make it vulnerable in massed battles where hit&run tactics don't work properly.
Also very good is incendiary mortar, especially in narrow passages.

defiantly right there, had a good game with Davos earlier where he had me to the wire, but I managed to outflank him with assault gun borgs and tanks - he came with lots of tank killer tanks and my assault gun borgs chewed them up - so even other borgs apart from tank killer ones may do the trick as well - although he didn't have the tank killers massed, so it might be a different story if there are many of them...NoQ wrote:Obviously tank killer cyborgs will annihilate tank killer rockets.

Will have to try that - I normally go for half tracks because of speed issues, but tracks if they are quite fast like you say would be the go.Jorzi wrote:Twin assault cannon mantis tracks, surprisingly fast and not particularly weak against anything. I have been trying to move away from my normal strat of mg/cannons to use rockets - basically starting off with flame borg/tanks while concentrating on a mortar pit rush plus good defense to give me time to build up numbers. The thing with rockets though is that you need a lot of them to be effective and they take more time to build up than other units and are a bit weak against defenses. I do put MRA into the mix though and this softens the D up a bit.
This works well against weaker opponents, but evenly matched/good players give some trouble and I find myself wanting my mg/cannons lol for the sheer speed you can spit them out. This was very true earlier where the production speed of assault gun tanks and borgs basically saved my arse even though my opponent was outputting more powerful units, but at a slower rate - plus he was at my base so there was more time to get the units there (especially not using hover).
These things are nasty when massed, tomato uses them a lot, coupled with another member having a fast attack rocket army to protect them. Very difficult to counter this as they go thru defenses like a hot knife thru butter lol.Jorzi wrote:Also very good is incendiary mortar, especially in narrow passages.

The key is to use mantis, many people use tiger but it simply isn't fast enough. Mantis mor than makes up for lack of hp by being cheap and fast even when using tracks.

Python Half-Track Pepperpots. Good survivability, absolutely lethal against other units and does a pretty nice job of shredding up enemy base essentials (like factories, etc) from a distance. I produce about 36 of them and get to work.

wow this is the first I have ever heard mentioned the pepperpots, I think read somewhere that they are useless so I have basically ignored them... will have to try em out, I guess if you have mortar upgrades by the time you get them they could be a force, although the heavy bodies with tracks seem to have a good immunity to mortar - off to do some testing lolGoth Zagog-Thou wrote:Python Half-Track Pepperpots. In multiplayer they are not the best because they come too late to do much against howitzers and ripples and incendiary morters (in high oil at least). In low oil, they are not used probably because mortars are expensive and take a while to get too, where tanks could kill you much faster. I could see how they work so well in the campaign though.

Pepperpots are certainly lethal against cyborgs and probably hovers too. Against any sort of cannon/mg + tracks, however, they probably do very little damage.

I think people are better off with incendiary mortars than pepperpots, I got owned pretty bad by Cat's massed incendiary mortars just before which sucked...
