Including videos in final releases

Post by BlueMaxima »

Will the sequences/videos be included with 2.2 when it's completly released? Or will people need to download them? Just for people for who it would be convienient to download only one file.

This question could also apply to the soundtrack.

They'll be downloaded automatically with the Windows installer.

The Linux part will probably be managed by the package manager. I'm not entirely sure about the Mac part.

Problem is to give away the installer to someone without internet. So how should he get the videos?

They can be downloaded manually from a number of sources, such as:

Sorry, but you dont understood the problem i think.
How can the installer download and install the sequences.wz on a system without internet access?

So i must give it away with the installer and manually put it in the warzone directory which is not a preferable way and rather explainable to a noob.

Yes, you do have to give it with the installer and manually put it in the Warzone directory.

I'll see if I come up with a separate installer that includes them.

due to some individuals with special needs - wheels sometimes have to be ... finnessed , to get them to do what you want. ie: those with slow modems or those with limited access to such things. :)

If you give them the installer, then you can also have a simple batch file to move sequences.wz to the default location that the installer uses.
Though, even a noob should be able to copy something into a folder...

just make a file called RunMeForVideos.bat
and inside it, have:

Code: Select all

copy /Y /B sequences.wz "C:\Program Files\Warzone 2100\sequences.wz"
Should be all you need. And of course, if that isn't the correct language/location, then just edit it.
and it ends here.

Only ONE installer that includes the videos, the soundtrack and the game. *probably should've been clearer*

It would be convienient for other people.

This would be funny - an ISO that when mounted/placed in a drive, lets you install the game :D Even better if it had a cool launcher with options to head to the website and such.

Yeah, but with the way you distribute the game, it'd make people think what would they have if they got the CD version compared to the DL version? You'd have to add extra content.
