I would doubt that the multi turret code had much to do with it.
In early versions of 2.1 (a long time before the betas, around this time last year) medium body units could have two turrets and heavy units three. This resulted in the multi turret code being tested to death.
Therefore it seems likely that the crash was caused by something else, however without a backtrace it is impossible to say.
Currently, in all likelihood multi turrets will not feature in the final 2.1 release.
Regards, Freddie.

Actually, I strongly suspect there are lots of not found bugs in the multiturret code. Not only did I rewrite lots of it recently, but it has not been tested intensively for the last two thousand commits or so.

I've also seen that units with multiturrets don't display their body name on them, but always "hydra", even if its a bit off-topic

I think the mutlturret code needs to be disabled for the time being.
It just isn't stable enough, and not nearly tested enough to put it a 'stable' release.
Of course, in debug mode, you can play around with it, but in normal mode, disable them is the best bet.
and it ends here.
