The Warzone 2100 Project staff bring you a new alpha build, master-20110228

This release brought to you by: The Revenge of the Buggy Release

This build features the new netcode that everyone has been waiting for.
We eagerly await feedback for this alpha build!

NOTE: command line options now require a "=" before the parameter.
For example, --configdir=./blah

NOTE: For mac users: Support for 10.4 has been discontinued; using 10.6 is highly recommended as 10.5 does not support a sufficiently high OpenGL version for all types of GFX cards.

Main changes:
  • The kick button should now be clickable.
  • Patrolling/scouting should work slightly better now, with the droids not forgetting to stop.
  • Gates should work now. The game shouldn't occasionally freeze and/or desynch when using gates. Droids can go through gates more than once.
  • Partially demolishing a damaged structure no longer results in an indestructable structure with negative hitpoints.
  • Structures no longer end up 90% damaged if queueing building 2 modules in a row on the same structure.
  • Cyborg prices are displayed again.
  • Research is shared with allies again. (Oops...)
Known bugs:
This release hopefully contains nosome bugs.
All droids can pass through any kind of building not allied to the host, except for closed gates — which means that gates are now fixed correctly, at the tiny cost of breaking everything except gates.
Trucks can get stuck near cliffs sometimes, giving a demolish order gets them unstuck.

If you have problems with being kicked or with kicking everyone for "incompatible mods", deleting some maps (for example 8c-early3v3V3.wz) might help.

Please submit all bugs via this link, and follow the directions listed at the link, we need every bit of that information in order to fix bugs!

Works great! Thank you. The only thing that I miss is the ability to kick a player from the alliance menu. Ultimately I want to host 10 player games. Even with good pings before game is launched sometimes a player lags badly later on in game for whatever reason. That player needs to be kicked to keep the game going normal. Also a different Algorithm instead of ping would be nice. Like a combination of ping and the number of retransmits between host and player. isMPDirtyBit is no longer in log but it would be nice if it was and broken down for each player.

But on a more serious note, really good fixes all of them. Thanks. :3

Yeah, those transparently passable buildings are pretty curious, even though it really doesn't matter too much.

Did not make ticket cause its just the stats in the log file. They are a little off.

== Total bytes sent 3008023, Total bytes received 0 ==
== Total packets sent 241454, recv 0 ==

Actuals are (including lobby)
bytes sent 948379, bytes received 579557
Packets sent 6051, packets received 6064

$./warzone2100
Crash apllication.
I have strange error:
OpenGL 2.0 is not supported your OS. Please update grafical driver...
Stable version 2.3.7 work normal.
Please talk me how i can run version 2011-02-28 on my netbook.

It has an Intel GMA 950, a really weak gfx chip, which according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA does not support OpenGL 2.

So the short answer is: You can't.

I said that in the last master topic, I'll say it again : It's really bad to mix all the good new stuff done in the master. With (pretty small indeed) graphical change that break compatibility definitively.

Is not there some way to use old graphics engine from version 2.3.7 or, at least give the user a choice - he needs OpenGL 2.0 or not. For example, on Windows, some games come with two executable files for the DirectX 10 and DirectX 9 (for example Devil May Cry 4).

just a quick one, hardly worth a ticket.

Hide behind me challenge; the teams are all borked, plays like a ffa rather than the intended predetermined alliances.

Has anyone else noticed that the AI has been completely nerfed? Even setting it at insane level, it just bunches up all in one place and never gets anywhere. They used to build howitzers, fortresses, and satellites in the previous 2.3.x series. Now I notice they will build one or two ripple rockets which they never built before, but nothing like the intensity of a top level AI in 2.3.x.

And what's up with the dancing units? Setting up cyborgs or tanks to build something and one of them will just go off dancing around solo not doing anything.

Also the strictness of troop movement where if you tell them to go somewhere, they all bunch up and repair units are unable to repair because every unit is all jammed up.

Edit: Seem to have a problem with saved skirmish games as well.

Other than that, great release!

How is it possible?
Just do it. In a separate folder.
because of maps!
The new version supports all maps (apart from some *very rare* maps with custom textures), so it's a strange reason.
