not really, 'most' howitzer types are quite lightly armoured, and quite agile.
as they must be, since they would have to move pdq after firing half a dozen rounds.
even the manned at guns get moved every 10 mins or so by Chinook.

You misinterpret. I am against game mechanics that require tedious micro in the first place. thats a fail position. but im not sure how it applies here? as it is the current cb system doesnt so much mean you cant use micro to move away, but that you cant due to the way the opponants batteries lock ...

Making droids evade on their own is something I never want to do. You might as well just make the AI play the game for you, and rename the game to Progress Quest. Ground-effect vehicles can support heavier armour than track-based propulsion, as the pressure is dissipated along the entire base of the vehicle, versus just the width of the treads. "can in lab" =/= "can in world" for practicality sake it would need to be more agile to make it...

if you have many indirect fire defenses in a base they can be very useful. just put a commander at the entrance with fire support on, its a way of picking targets for such buildings. attack waves that may otherwise have broken your defenses break themselves. Good luck with 3 layers of fully-upgraded missile fortresses.
