Get the debug version and file a bug report not just OS and Hardware but which flags you used, the game settings your using and the steps and ... the name of the map it crashed on the " --cheat" flag is super buggy so try not to use it when your retesting for the bug you ran in to. ie : &q...

What OS are you using? sounds to me like you have ports blocked ( Firewall settings ) on both computers that you can't host with if you can both join another game.

I'm not going to jump the gun say your wrong because you might have found a memory leak that doesn't show up in Linux but does in Windows.
Have you filed a bug report on this, with dump file and a debug output file? if you have not you should.

What happens if you change your memory setting to swap out as soon as windows want to vs "transfer memory into virtual space if physical memory is running low."?
