Re: Want to help : Modeling

There is a lot more to making models for Warzone than just making some 3D models. The final droids shown on screen are composed from different models that are glued together on the fly, so you do not make a full droid with wheel, but just a body that fits with the propulsion models, and has connecto...

Re: New FMV how important is this to the community?

The story was published in the GPL release. It is in the RPLs and scripts included in it (novideo.rpl contains all the subtitles, for example). The missing FMVs merely contain a unique and separately copyrightable visual representation of the story that we cannot use. Trademark is a very different c...

Re: A question about the FMVs...

I'm not asking you to change.  In fact, I'm not even asking the project to re-include the FMV source and libraries.  I'm asking for explanation as to why it has not been made generally known that the FMVs work perfectly in the first build of the source... How come it is our responsibility to do so?...

Re: Long term skirmishes - player immersion

I am much in favour of eventually adding more types of multiplayer games, especially campaign-type multiplayer. However, there are a few things that need to be in place before we can talk seriously about this, a resurrected map editor being the most important part of the puzzle.

Re: A question about the FMVs...

People around here still haven't answered the questions I've asked about the legal issues.  Would we get sued if we made the contents of the CDs available?  We obviously care about the legal fine print. You obviously do not. Let us just leave it at that. It is not going to change. I would suggest a...

Re: A question about the FMVs...

according to u.s. law, at least, the company who owns copyright can revoke any applicable licenses at any time, too That is only the case if revokation is part of the license in question. The GNU GPL does not have a revokation clause, hence it cannot be revoked. (Unless someone asks a court to decl...

Re: A question about the FMVs...

I'd just like to point out that I, as one of the linux developers,...: never had the original game do not have the original FMVs do not have permission from the copyright holder of the proprietary codec to distribute their binary DLL do not have permission from Eidos/Pumpkin to distribute the origin...

I'm a sneaking underhanded %^&$ so GLA stealth general in C&C Generals:Zero Hour is my feared favourite (your vehicles are either hijacked or bomb trucks in disguise, my base could be anywhere and there's suddenly a tonne of soldiers in your base capturing everything in sight). It's actually the on...

Re: Just Interesting Question.

Can't you already adjust the heightfields of the map in debug mode or something? What sort of issues with pathing would that generate doing it on the fly with a weapon hit? Yes, we can pretty much do whatever we want with the terrain, and adding weapon deformation of the terrain would be rather eas...

Re: New FMV how important is this to the community?

Actually, a few of the videos were in the source code release, and I think they contain all the logos etc., so we should be well covered there. Re: Blender Import/Export Script?

Right now we need a way to distinguish between small, medium and large weapon connectors, so that (for example) you cannot place three archangels on a droid... I'm not against the possibility of stricter limits, but remember this has all to be matched be more accurate weapon descriptions and code to...

Re: New Backgrounds

Any chance you could make the glow effect into an animation? Just create a dozen or so PNG files that become an animation when looped, and I'll look at implementing it in Warzone. That would rock I think.

Re: 2d map editing removed!!!!!

In-game 2D map editing was apparently removed long before the original release, but the code for it was (in a very non-functional form) still preserved inside the sources. I do not know when they removed it, but if I were a betting man, I would bet it was before they made the external map editor. In...

Re: Warzone2100 on Sparc64 (Linux)

Why don't you try the svn trunk version instead? BTW, the bug happens in the reading of the ugly, binary *.img files. It reads structures right from the binary file. So if any of the standard types are of different width than the expected, or structure padding is different than expected, it will fail.

Re: OK!!! here we go again!!!!

We could use a roadmap. If we could agree on some goals for the next release (2.1), we could perhaps pull in the same direction gettings those things finished. I think the most important goal should be to make Warzone work flawlessly for multiplayer LAN usage. That means no async bugs, no problems p...
