Re: Artillery Trajectory

At this point is where I begin to disagree with this. It's a game - the players want the IDF weapons to hit their targets, not neccessarily be realistic (although the case I've noticed where IDF weapons fire across the ground is dumb - I think the MRLS does this). The principal difference between mo...

Re: Fixing the Power Problem

That's true. SC really didn't offer anything new to the genre aside from a compelling storyline, fluid gameplay and robust support from the developer plus a cohesive online community. Their success really lies in their execution, not in what they brought to the table for the RTS genre. Aside from a ...

Re: Fixing the Power Problem

Let me clarify that I am in fact contrasting Warzone to StarCraft. I've always believed that WZ is superior to SC, but that WZ missed the mark. I believe power is part of the problem. I do not think you can win if you neither expand nor rush. Rushing is always a good tactic - it has the potential to...

Fixing the Power Problem

All, I wanted to start up a thread to gather ideas on how to address the problem of power in WZ. I have some ideas of my own that I'm going to implement in my own little section of the world but I thought I'd get some input from others. Problem: The power system doesn't really allow the player to pu...

Re: travel path calculation

Agreed - WZ doesn't need larger maps. Ground units are slow enough as they are, and to make them travel larger distances would only serve to increase game lengths which is already a problem. Larger maps would also only serve to increase the use of mass VTOL swarms as well. WZ is supposed to be a gam...

Yeah and as cool as that may have been, the flying truck was a very game-breaking addition to Warzone.

Re: What defines Warzone?

A goodly share can be assigned Net MP cheating - which first plagued MPLayer in '99 & has never really changed much since. Agree wholeheartedly. 2 things I think made Starcraft successful - polish and a good multiplay experience. The multiplay's success in SC I think has 2 parts - the cohesive mult...

Convention for password boxes is that they do as Coyote explained :stare: :...:

You have the source code, don't you? XD

Re: What defines Warzone?

Relax. You're analysis of existing balance is impressive, but you - and other balancers - forget that the original balance is tilted towards a particular style of gameplay. Most latter-day balancing tends to reproduce the gameplay of other RTSs or to suit mp quickies. Agreed - I'd say, in a negativ...

Yep, would have to be done in the source code.

And, it's not exactly a trivial task, either..

Re: What defines Warzone?

What kinds of major changes are you proposing? Is there a list of them somewhere? No. I am still thinking about that. Hence the original post. Ah, I see. :) Warzone for me (not in any particular order of importance): Music FMVs (big one for me) Post-apocalyptic story and setting Full 3D environment...

Re: legal site for last official release

Wz 1.10 doesn't have any solid anti-cheat code. It just does a simple step to verify that all players are playing with the same game data (and calls those who arent cheaters :D). Packets can still easily be altered on the fly, although with an already unstable network scheme, certain kinds of cheati...

Re: Is anyone developing a 1.x fork?

Which may not be surprising since it was devoped to run on the psx, a device which doesn't even have a dedicated 3d accelerator. Which is interesting that you should mention it because I've always believed and I'm even willing to put money on the idea that Warzone 2100 wasn't originally designed wi...
