Re: Homing-Indirect improvements

I hope jammers aren't going to affect commanders or sensor units that are in visual range of a target, though; you can't jam binoculars, a map and a compass.

Hmmm. Come to think of it, I wonder if the ECM code could be used for implementing camouflage...

Re: Homing-Indirect improvements

As a player with a bad habit of over-relying on artillery, I like this idea a lot. One thing I think would enhance the balance however is making C-RAMs visible to radar detector turrets/towers, so that a player smart enough to scout out the enemy base before going on the offensive didn't have to exp...

Re: Assault Guns

I use a Medium Cannon Cobra Wheels as a tank destroyer in the modern sense; it's probably about equivalent to one of those Strykers fitted out with a 105.

Re: Assault Guns

Using a howitzer without a sensor and with an attack group is p. much an assault gun. I had thought about this sorta, like, more specifically a tank destroyer, has all-rounder grade armor and as more damage than a comparable lancer, but a fixed casemate and not a turret. Howitzers are a bit of a ri...

Assault Guns

Wikipedia entry on real life examples. In summary, they're a tank chassis with the gun fixed forward instead of in a turret. The reduced weight enables a heavier gun and more armour to be carried for the same road speed, but the whole vehicle has to rotate in order to traverse the gun. They were in...

Re: This is the reason.

Is this some kind of weird in-joke that only the staff and senior members will understand, or are you just all high on something?

Bug Or Feature?

When trying to create a Dragon body anti-air platform for a skirmish game in 2.3.9, I discovered something slightly odd. After selecting the Avenger SAM turret, I searched high and low on the list for the Stormbringer AA laser but for the life of me I couldn't find it, and had to make do with a Whir...

Re: Simple UAV like solution

I'm not sure if mobile balloons are a great idea, but that does give me an idea for a new kind of sensor tower: a tethered balloon with a sensor turret attached. Much greater scan radius and immune to line-of-sight issues, but vulnerable to AA fire (if that wouldn't involve an excessive amount of fi...

Re: [Beta 3.0]OpenGL 2.0 and Mysterious Lock-Ups

What graphic card do you have ? Usually, updating video drivers to the latest helps with openGL issues. Right now, the onboard graphics chipset of an Intel Atom-powered netbook running Windows XP. My primary computer (which for reasons too complicated to be worth going into here is currently unavai...

Fair enough. My point stands about this being fairly easy to change, though.

Re: Commanders and the CRC

Actually, I think there was a 1.x mod back in the days where there was a 'combat commander turret' where it was essentially a medium cannon. If I recall correctly, the main problem with it, was that the units being commanded would only change what they we're attacking each time the cannon's project...

Re: Commanders and the CRC

*le sigh* I meant that you couldn't make an artillery unit into a commander as well . It'd be possible to mod the commander to have a cannon or an MG or something, but not an indirect fire weapon. Or at least not do so and then attach the result to another commander. Though I wish attached artillery...

Re: Commanders and the CRC

That wasn't quite what I had in mind, and in fact I'm fairly certain that attaching the commander ability to an indirect-fire turret would horribly break the game; you can't currently attach commanders to other commanders, for example. What I was envisioning was to simply swap out the command turret...

[Beta 3.0]OpenGL 2.0 and Mysterious Lock-Ups

When I run the new version, it pops up with an error message informing me that my current graphics hardware doesn't support OpenGL 2.0 and that "some things may look wrong". When I click OK, it loads up the main menu without demur... but when I try to start an actual game, it locks up on the loading...
