Not in the sense you are thinking of, but when a game has been around for 11 years there are bound to be people that have played it a lot more than you and are better than you at the game.

Open source doesn't really matter that much. Flaws of the game multiplayer engine are much more important. With new netcode found in master builds, most of the time anybody doesn't obey the rules, the game detects a desyncronization and hangs instantly; even the deity cheat leads to desync because of different targeting on different computers. (Yes, i want to know more about it too).

Maybe the people you think are cheating are just better than you at the game you are playing? Considering the fact that the vast majority of open source games are clones of games from the mid to late '90's or using the same game engines with the same game play, the probability of someone spending more time playing and being better than you at the game is quite high for people that have never played the original games.

tl;dr - exploit using cheaters are exceedingly rare.

Would it be possible to create a txt log(history) of each game you played? That logs the actions of all players from your end in the game? (including power levels, completed research items, times, units produced, total number of units ect)

I know how easy it must be to cheat, and the really good cheaters do it so subtle that you might not even notice. But I have played some borderline games where I was left dumbfounded by some peoples tech advances, unit strengths ect.

And thats fine, I have never accused anyone of cheating... I know that there are very good players out there and I am eager to meet/play against them. However the fact that it is so easy to cheat lingers in the back of my mind, and the fact that RTS games are hard to begin with makes people even more tempted.

Some poeple say only play with folks in IRC. Well, unfortuently the very few times I've been suspicious have been with IRC people. Like I said, if they're in IRC odds are they love the game and are great at it, which I am glad to see... but being able to identify at somepoint the good cheaters would put my mind at ease.

It may not even be possible to stop cheating in the 2.3 series and earlier. (This includes the current 3.0-beta series.) There is too much trust going around in the net code, and too much that is out of sync to do any kind of verification. However, in master any cheating should now generate an out of sync warning, so it can at least be detected.

Cool story bro. That's news to me, I would have NEVER suspected anyone of doing that. Ever. :P

Seriously though, pretty much any game you'll occasionally run into people who cheat. If the game is open source, the chance of finding exploits is MUCH higher than not. (Granted, said exploits usually get patched more quickly since someone else will notice, but still.)

Just throw up a bug report or such, or just check the staff listing and send it to someone like Per, Safetyoff or one of the other devs.

its actually not a bug, nor does it require modifying game source code, its really more of a hack

Well, if this way of yours allows online cheating without modifying the game source, you should just report it as a bug, and it'd be fixed in the next version.
If it requires recompiling the game, then there's nothing *anybody* can do about it, so you'd just have to choose your opponents (like coming to IRC, etc.)

Hello all. as the title suggests i have found a way to cheat in online play. tho i am not sure if the normal cheats are usable in online play, this exploit is a bit more of a back door cheat. as much as i would love to release what i have found here, i feel it would be best not to do that. any Warzone admin please email me at death2frame (at) yahoo.com with the subject WZ CHEATER. i will explain my method that way to protect to game.

i kno cheating is wrong and for that i am sorry....but i get tired of getting my a** kicked hahaha
